Funding

Harbour is a small independent counselling agency and operates on a small budget. It offers around 1000 hours of free counselling per year. Each client at Harbour is offered up to 10 weekly hour-long sessions.

In the Perth area private counselling can cost between £35 and £50 per hour, higher for couple counselling.

Harbour’s funding is from the following sources:

   – grants from charitable trusts, usually awarded for between 1 and 3 years.

   – donations from individuals (clients, ex-clients, and friends of Harbour).

   – donations from Churches, Guilds, Christian organisations.

   – fund-raising activities.

Expenses

Our team is usually made up of equal numbers of qualified counsellors and student counsellors on placement. Harbour’s qualified counsellors are fully trained professionals who are either registered with Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland (COSCA) or the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and give their time free of charge. However they have to maintain the professional standards set by these counselling bodies which requires monthly external supervision for each counsellor. This incurs a fee which is funded by Harbour. This represents a significant proportion of Harbour’s expenses.

Harbour employs a part-time Practice Manager, who is also a qualified counsellor, for 17 hours per week; and a part-time Administrative Co-ordinator for 15 hours a week.

All other personnel (administrative staff, maintenance staff, and board members) give their time free of charge.
